Yin Yoga Foundations Series – Session 1 – Yin & Yang Yoga: What’s The Difference?

Beginning: January 20, 2019
Time: 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Location: Santosha Space
200 North Churton Street, Hillsborough, NC, USA

In this class, we will explore a balance between Yin and Yang.  We all experience the body, our life and the world differently.  From day-to-day, our perspective shifts.  What is yang to me, maybe be yin for you.

We will play with yin and yang approaches to each shape.   Finding strength and softness … muscles and connective tissue … flow and stillness.

What I most enjoy about Yin Yang classes is noticing where I find my “super power”.  I know that sounds silly but there is a place between the two approaches that I feel like I can do anything.  It is my place of balance.  ~ Meg

A Bit About Yin and Yang

Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts which describe the two relative qualities present in everything. Yin is more internal, passive, cooling and downward. While Yang is more external, dynamic, warming and upward.

When these terms are applied to yoga, Yin Yoga is a slower practice where poses are passively held for longer, working on the deep, dense (Yin) connective tissues and joints in the body. Yang Yoga, in contrast, refers to a more active practice working on the (Yang) muscles and blood flow, building strength, stamina and flexibility.
