Movement for Parkinson’s

Group Classes and Private Sessions

Everyone knows movement is critical for managing Parkinson's.  The key is finding movement you enjoy in a space you are comfortable with instructors that listen and pay attention to your needs.  We are excited to provide both Group Classes and Private Sessions.  Through the Parkinson's Movement Initiative, we offer group Dance and Pilates classes (via Zoom) as well as recorded classes (via YouTube) .  Private small group and individual sessions are offered by Poe Wellness Solutions.

We begin with a quick check-in ~ How are you feeling today? Any issues from last week’s class? What would you like to focus on today? Class consists of a warm-up focusing on alignment, exercises challenging strength and balance, and a cool down for stretching and relaxation. All exercises are explained and demonstrated with options for beginners as well as more advanced participants. Time is spent seated in a chair, standing with the wall, chair or bar for balance and on the floor. Each week we enjoy new ideas for improving strength, flexibility and balance. Participants are regularly reminded to explore their limits and to pay attention to their body. We also laugh a little. Class ends with a quick check-out ~ How are you feeling now? Any concerns? What worked well in class today?

Private & Small Group Sessions

Private & small group sessions can be helpful for a variety of reasons.

Have you ever thought the following:

  • I enjoy group classes and believe individual attention could help me better understand my abilities.
  • I would like to do exercises at home and need more one-on-one attention before I am comfortable doing that.
  • One-on-one would be nice but it would be more fun with a few of my friends.  We are all looking for the same things and would learn more in a small group.

If you are interested, let's discuss it.  Prices vary depending on location and number of sessions.  Contact us ~ meg@poewellnesssolutions.com.

Testimonials

I am so glad this program is available! I really appreciate not only the exercise, but also the support, the camaraderie, the info sharing, the safe space environment, & the friendships.

All of us in the Parkinson's community are very thankful to ADF Studios for hosting and making the Parkinsons Movement Initiative Program a reality.

The community here is so important to me. It's great to be with people who understand this disease but not to focus on that. Instead, everyone is positive, encouraging, and focused on moving well and enjoying it. When I say the community, I mean the instructors, the student assistants, the office staff, the participants, everyone I encounter here.

I also love the physical space. It is so inspiring, and the instructors always have everything set up for us. There are so many important touches - like the name tags and the emphasis on getting to know names. I feel really pampered being in such a beautiful space with such wonderful people. And it's free. It's magical.

I really appreciate the support and presence of the volunteers.  I am grateful to ADF for continuing to provide these classes.

The content of the class and the dedication and attitude of the instructor, Meg, have given me confidence and a sense of control as I begin this journey with Parkinson's

Pilates for Parkinson's helps us personally and collectively to unlock the strengths we can bring to bear against the progress of the disease.

Meg is great at building from what we can do and challenging us to take it a step further and we do because we trust her.

Meg is an exceptional teacher.  Her verbal description of the exercise is reinforced by her visual demonstration of the exercise.  Meg is very thorough and shows her passion for Pilates as a tool for helping people with Parkinson's.  She treats each individual with respect as well as an understanding of where they are in the Parkinson journey.

At the beginning of each class, Meg asks each individual what they want to focus on and then she weaves that into the structure of the class along with what she wants us to learn to do.  The exercises are specific to help alleviate the symptoms of Parkinson's.

The class is thoughtfully presented to move us all along, though there are many levels of need present.

I most enjoy the feeling of well-being after the class and seeing how my husband who has PD is progressing.

I find the focus that Pilates for Parkinson's provides helps to structure my day-to-day response to the condition.  When I unintentionally am forced to miss a class, I feel the absence acutely.

Meg is a gem - so knowledgeable, helpful, supportive, enthusiastic, and kind. I really thought I would not like this class because I prefer more aerobic activity, but Meg creates such a welcoming environment and I am seeing the huge benefits from this slower type of body work.

There are not enough superlatives in the dictionary to describe Meg Poe.  The is SO good at teaching these classes, she's amazing. You will never find another to equal her.
